Tymoshenko: MIA top officials were flying to one of hot spots
The senior officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, killed in the helicopter crash in Brovary, were flying to one of the hot spots where hostilities are currently taking place.
"The purpose [of the flight] was to make a working visit to one of the hot spots in our country. The Minister of Internal Affairs was heading there," Deputy Head of the President’s Office Kyrylo Tymoshenko said at a briefing, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
He added that more details would be announced later.
A total of nine people were on board the helicopter, Tymoshenko noted.
Eighteen people, including three children, were killed in the crash. More than 20 people, including children, are in hospitals. Several patients are in intensive care units.
At the same time, Tymoshenko underscored that the structures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs continue to work and perform their functions.
As reported, a helicopter crashed near a kindergarten and a residential building in Brovary town, Kyiv region, on Wednesday.
Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denys Monastyrskyi, First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Yevheniy Yenin, and State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Yuriy Lubkovych were killed in the crash.
