Stoltenberg: This is a pivotal moment in the war, Ukraine needs more weapons
Ukraine needs a significant increase in weapons at a pivotal moment in Russia's invasion.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said this in an interview with Reuters on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Ukrinform reports.
“This is a pivotal moment in the war and the need for a significant increase in support for Ukraine," Stoltenberg said.
According to him, Ukraine needs more air defence systems and armour but also ammunition, spare parts and maintenance capabilities to ensure that its existing weapons continued to function.
The NATO Secretary General said the situation along battlefronts had stabilised over the past weeks, but that the protracted fierce fighting in the eastern city of Bakhmut demonstrated the importance of providing more weapons to support Ukraine.
“President Putin has shown no sign of preparing for peace and therefore he must realise he cannot win on the battlefield," Stoltenberg added.
As reported by Ukrinform, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will attend a Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, on 20 January 2023.
