US to announce new security assistance package to Ukraine
The United States is preparing to announce a new security assistance package to Ukraine on Friday, which will include mostly ammunition for the systems in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“U.S. will have another round of assistance for Ukraine come in tomorrow [March 3]. And it will include mostly ammunitions and munitions that the Ukrainians will need for the systems that they already have, like the HIMARS and the artillery,” U.S. National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby said at a briefing on March 2, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.
Kirby noted that possibilities of additional support to Ukraine would be discussed by American and German leaders.
As Reuters reports citing people familiar with the package, the size of the package is roughly $400 million. It is expected to contain more Guided Multiple Launch Rockets (GMLRS) for HIMARS launchers, ammunition for the Bradley Fighting Vehicles, as well as armored vehicle launched bridges.
As reported, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will pay a visit to Washington on Friday, during which he is to hold talks with President Biden at the White House.
