“Despicable, barbaric” - Dutch foreign minister on execution of Ukrainian POW

Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra is appalled by the execution of a Ukrainian prisoner of war by the Russian forces, calling it a despicable and barbaric act, which is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions.

This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to Hoekstra’s Twitter account.

“Deeply appalled by the beheading of a Ukrainian POW. A vile, barbaric act and a flagrant violation of the Geneva Conventions. Such evil only strengthens our determination to support Ukraine to defend itself against Russian aggression,” Hoekstra wrote.

As reported, videos of Russians beheading a Ukrainian prisoner of war have been circulating online. Ukrainian law enforcement agencies are taking extensive measures to identify the perpetrators of the brutal crime.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that every world leader must respond to these atrocities.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has appealed to the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, demanding urgent reaction to the execution of a Ukrainian prisoner of war by Russian soldiers in the context of the investigation of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Ukraine by the Russian invasion forces.
