Sweden to launch military drill with partners, largest in over 25 years
In Sweden, on April 17, the Aurora 23 exercise kicks off, the country’s largest over the last more quarter of a century.
As Ukrinform reports with reference to the Armed Forces of Sweden, various Swedish forces will take part in the exercises together with partners, including Ukraine.
The purpose of the exercises is to enhance the potential of Swedish troops to counter an armed attack on their country. The training will take place in the air, on land, and at sea in many parts of Sweden.
Fourteen nations represented by nearly 26,000 military personnel will take part in the drill. Besides to Sweden, the participants are the USA, Great Britain, Finland, Poland, Norway, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Denmark, Austria, Germany, and France.
"Training is a good way to strengthen, signal and test our military capabilities. Thus, conducting large-scale and extended exercises is key to creating a stronger defense," the Swedish Armed Forces said.
The training will wrap up in May. On the Swedish side, the army, navy, air force, and national guard will be involved.
