NASA says flash over Kyiv was not related to falling satellite

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) said that bright flashes over the city of Kyiv were not related to a falling satellite.

A representative of the NASA’s Office of Communications told the BBC, Ukrinform reports.

“Rob Margetta from Nasa's Office of Communications told the BBC that the satellite was still in orbit at the time the flash was observed (over Kyiv – ed.),” the report says.

The US space agency representative had announced earlier this week that a satellite would re-enter the atmosphere on Wednesday. It is noted that NASA and the US defence department continued to track RHESSI.

As reported by Ukrinform, around 22:00 on April 19, a bright flash of an aerial object was observed in the sky over Kyiv. The Kyiv Regional Military Administration suggested it was caused by a NASA satellite falling to Earth.
