Ukraine organizes transfer of invaders’ bodies to Russia with Red Cross assistance
The Office of the Ukrainian Commissioner for Persons Missing in Special Circumstances has established with the Russian side the transfer of bodies of fallen Russian military personnel, which allows Ukraine to return the bodies of its heroes faster.
Oleg Kotenko, the Commissioner for Persons Missing in Special Circumstances, said this in a comment to Ukrinform.
"We have indeed established contact with the Russian side through Geneva, through the International Committee of the Red Cross, and are transferring the bodies. We don't call it an exchange, we call it a transfer of bodies, repatriation in order to return our own as soon as possible. They are also asking for their own, but I know for sure that we have many more of their dead in refrigerated trucks on the territory of Ukraine," Kotenko said.
He clarified that the Russians sometimes search for the bodies of their soldiers by name, and Ukraine simply hands them over if they are available. "But there is a formula we work by," the Commissioner said.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, in a comment to Reuters, the head of Ukraine’s civil-military cooperation, Volodymyr Lyamzin, said that Ukraine was acting in accordance with international law and was ready to return the bodies to Russia.
