Ex-BBC News Ukraine journalist killed on front line

Former BBC News Ukraine journalist Oleksandr Bondarenko has been killed on the front line in Ukraine.

That’s according to the BBC, Ukrinform reports.

He volunteered to join the territorial defense forces at the outset of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. Before that, he had worked as a communications expert and media trainer.

Details of the journalist's death are not yet known. Close friends reported that "death caught up with him in a battle."

Friends, former colleagues at the BBC, and wider media community honored the memory of a talented journalist who became a successful professional in the field of communications.

Oleksandr Bondarenko was originally from Luhansk.

From 2007 to 2011, he worked for the Ukrainian Service of the BBC as a reporter, presenter and editor of radio programs broadcast from Kyiv. He then left the BBC to work for other media organizations.

Bondarenko was one of many thousands of Ukrainians who left their civilian jobs to defend their country from the Russian invasion.
