Russian soldier surrenders to Ukraine’s drone near Bakhmut
On May 9, 2023, Ukrainian forces took a Russian soldier prisoner near the Donetsk region’s Bakhmut, using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).
The relevant statement was made on Telegram by Yurii Fedorenko (Achilles), the Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV) Company Commander of the 92nd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Ivan Sirko, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“Bakhmut: a charitable act from the Armed Forces of Ukraine on May 9. The UCAV squad detected a Russian soldier, who asked not to bomb him. Our team dropped him a note with a request to surrender and follow a drone. He agreed, although his ‘fellows’ were firing at his back,” Fedorenko wrote.
Despite shelling from the Russian side, the invader managed to reach Ukrainian positions.
“Being captured in Ukraine gives a better chance of survival than serving in the Russian army,” Fedorenko added.
A reminder that, on May 9, 2023, Russian troops launched about 30 attacks in the Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Marinka directions. The fiercest battles are underway for the Donetsk region’s Bakhmut and Marinka.
