Three dozen Abrams tanks already delivered to Germany for training - Pentagon

The United States has already delivered three dozen M1 Abrams training tanks to Germany, on which Ukrainian defenders will soon be training.

Pentagon spokesman General Patrick Ryder said this at a briefing in Washington on Monday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"I can confirm that the 31 M1 Abrams training tanks have arrived in Germany in preparation for the subsequent training of Ukrainian tankers," said Ryder.

According to him, the training of Ukrainian crews on American tanks will begin within the next few weeks.

"This extensive training program for Ukrainian crews and maintainers is intended to prepare them for the critical roles ahead in effectively operating an M1 tank and defending Ukrainian people," Pentagon spokesman emphasized.

As reported earlier, President Biden announced that the United States would transfer a modern version of the Abrams M1-A2 battle tank to Ukraine. However, either they are yet to be produced or older variants need to be upgraded. At the same time, more modern variants require more time for Ukrainian troops to master.
