Number of children injured by Russian army in Ukraine rises to 974

As a result of Russia’s full-scale armed aggression, 481 children have been killed and 974 more injured in Ukraine.

“As of the morning of May 16, 2023, more than 1,454 children were affected in Ukraine as a result of the full-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation. According to the official information provided by juvenile prosecutors, 481 children were killed and more than 974 received injuries of various degrees of severity,” the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office wrote on Telegram.

It is noted that these figures are not final, as work is underway in the areas of active hostilities, in the temporarily occupied and liberated territories.

Most children were affected in Donetsk region - 459, Kharkiv region - 277, Kyiv region - 128, Kherson region - 97, Zaporizhzhia region – 90, Mykolaiv region - 89, Chernihiv region - 70, Dnipropetrovsk region – 70, and Luhansk region – 66.

On Monday, May 15, a 13-year-old girl was injured in Russia’s shelling of Nikopol, Dnipropetrovsk region.

As reported by Ukrinform, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the Russian Federation had abducted 20,000 Ukrainian children since the full-scale invasion.
