Ukrainian forces repel attacks in Maryinka area, 44 combat clashes recorded in the east

The Russian army is concentrating its main efforts in the Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Maryinka sectors, the Defense Forces of Ukraine repelled numerous enemy attacks in the Maryinka area.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said this in its evening update on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

"The enemy continues to focus its main efforts in the Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Maryinka directions. During the day, 44 combat clashes took place in those sectors of the front. Bakhmut and Maryinka remain the epicenter of hostilities," the report says.

In the Volyn and Polissia directions, there have been no signs of formation of enemy offensive groups. Certain units of the armed forces of Belarus continue to perform tasks in the districts bordering Ukraine.

In the Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna directions, the invaders continues to maintain a military presence in the districts bordering Ukraine. The enemy launched mortar and artillery attacks on the settlements of Muravii, Chernihiv region; Romashkove, Iskryskivshchyna, Volfyne, Kindrativka, Sadky, Zapsillia in Sumy region, as well as Kozacha Lopan, Hoptivka, Lukiantsi, Hatyshche, Pletenivka,  Nesterne, Kruhle, Zemlianky, Starytsia and Budarky in Kharkiv region.

In the Kupiansk direction, the aggressor conducted unsuccessful offensive operations in the areas of Masiutivka, Kharkiv region, and Novoselivske and Stelmakhivka, Luhansk region. Airstrikes were recorded on the settlements of Budarky, Vilshana, Kyslivka, Kotliarivka and Tabaivka of Kharkiv region. Dvorichanske, Kamianka, Krasne Pershe, Fyholivka, Novomlynsk, Dvorichna, Masiutivka, Kindrashivka, Kupiansk, Kyslivka, Tabaivka, Berestove of Kharkiv region and Stelmakhivka of Luhansk region were subjected to enemy artillery and mortar attacks.

In the Lyman direction, the enemy conducted offensive operations in the area of Bilohorivka, Luhansk region. The Russian forces launched airstrikes on Bilohorivka of Luhansk region and Spirne, Siversk and Chervone of Donetsk region. Makiivka, Nevske, Bilohorivka of Luhansk region and Verkhniokamianske, Torske, Spirne of Donetsk region came under enemy artillery fire.

In the Bakhmut direction, the enemy continues to conduct offensive operations. Heavy fighting for Bakhmut is ongoing. In addition, during the day, the Russians conducted unsuccessful offensive operations in the areas of Ivanivske. They launched airstrikes on the areas of Bohdanivka, Bakhmut, Ivanivske, and Toretsk of Donetsk region. Hryhorivka, Bohdanivka, Bakhmut, Ivanivske, Chasiv Yar, Stupochky, Pivnichne, Toretsk of Donetsk region were subjected to enemy artillery fire.

In the Avdiivka direction, the aggressor continues to destroy the infrastructure of populated areas. The Russian army launched airstrikes on Avdiivka and Vodiane, shelled the settlements of Novokalynove, Berdychi, Stepove, Avdiivka, Pervomaiske, Nevelske and Karlivka of Donetsk region.

In the Maryinka direction, units of the Defense Forces repelled enemy numerous attacks in the area of Maryinka. The enemy launched an airstrike on Krasnohorivka. At the same time, Hostre, Maryinka, and Pobieda of Donetsk region came under enemy fire.

In the Shakhtarske direction, the Russians launched airstrikes on Vuhledar and Velyka Novosilka. They also shelled Novomykhailivka, Paraskoviivka, Vuhledar, Prechystivka and Novoukrainka of Donetsk region.

In the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, the invaders continue to conduct defensive operations. They launched airstrikes on Vremivka of Donetsk region, Novodanylivka of Zaporizhzhia region, and Beryslav, Kizomys, and Mala Tokmachka of Kherson region. In addition, the aggressor shelled the settlements of Olhivske, Malynivka, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Huliaipilske, Bilohirya, Shcherbaky, Stepove and Kamianske of Zaporizhzhia region, as well as Tokarivka, Kizomys of Kherson region and the city of Kherson.

According to the General Staff, the Ukrainian Air Force launched 13 strikes on the areas where Russian personnel and military equipment were located, as well as three strikes on enemy anti-aircraft missile systems. During the current day, Ukrainian defenders destroyed one Iranian-made Shahed attack UAV and two reconnaissance drones.

Ukraine’s rocket and artillery units struck five enemy manpower clusters, as well as targeted three radio-electronic warfare stations, two ammunition depots and a fuel depot.

As Ukrinform reported, from February 24, 2022 to May 16, 2023, the Defense Forces of Ukraine eliminated about 199,980 Russian invaders, including 520 occupiers in the past 24 hours.
