Russian forces intensify shelling of Kharkiv, Chernihiv and Sumy regions
The Russian army has intensified shelling of Ukraine’s border regions - Kharkiv, Chernihiv and Sumy regions, the enemy attacks communities every day with various types of weapons.
That’s according to data provided by the regional military administrations on the situation in the regions of Ukraine as of 09:00 on Wednesday, May 17, Ukrinform reports.
Over the past week, from May 8 to 16, Russian troops shelled Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and Sumy regions a total of 162 times using artillery and mortar systems.
The largest number of attacks was recorded in Sumy region - 110, Chernihiv region - 29, Kharkiv region - 23.
The targets of the Russians are civilian objects, which contradicts the rules of warfare, violates international humanitarian law and leads to the death, injury of the civilian population, the destruction or damage to the housing stock, civilian infrastructure - healthcare, educational institutions, communications, the energy sector.
In Kharkiv region this week, 12 people have been killed and 23 more people injured, including children. In Sumy region, one person has been killed and two others injured, including a child. Three people have been killed and three more injured in Chernihiv region.
As Ukrinform reported, on the morning of May 17, the Russian forces shelled the border area of Chernihiv and Sumy regions three times.
