Police open 70 cases over sexual violence by Russian military

Ukraine’s police officers have opened a total of 70 criminal cases over sexual violence committed by the Russian military.

"As of May 18, 2023, 70 criminal cases were opened over the facts of sexual violence committed by the Russian military," the press service of the National Police of Ukraine informs.

As noted, since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the National Police investigators have opened 77,298 cases over crimes committed by service members of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and their accomplices in the territory of Ukraine.

In particular, 64,984 cases were opened under Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Violation of laws and customs of war), 9,191 – Art. 110 (Encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine), 2,863 – Art. 111-1 (Collaborationism), 154 – Art. 111 (High treason).

As reported, the State Bureau of Investigation brought high treason charges against one of the leaders of the 501st Marine Brigade who allegedly facilitated the capture of 277 soldiers by the Russian forces.
