Night raid on Kyiv: Ukraine's air defense forces down over 40 Shaheds

Ukraine's air defense forces destroyed more than 40 Iranian-made Shahed kamikaze drones in the airspace of Kyiv overnight, according to the Kyiv city military administration.

"The 14th air attack on the capital since the beginning of May! Today, the enemy decided to 'congratulate' the people of Kyiv on Kyiv Day using their deadly UAVs. According to preliminary information, this was the largest-ever drone attack on the capital since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, particularly using Shahed loitering munitions. The attack was carried out in several waves, and the air raid alert lasted for more than five hours," said Serhii Popko, head of the Kyiv city military administration.

According to preliminary reports, Ukraine's air defenses shot down more than 40 enemy drones in the airspace of Kyiv. The final data will be published in the reports of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Air Force.

Popko said that according to the information that is being clarified, falling drone debris had led to casualties and destruction in various districts of Kyiv.

In the Holosiivskyi district, drone debris hit a seven-story non-residential building, killing one person and leaving one more injured. The roof of a shopping mall caught fire and a fire broke out on the territory of a construction site. A fire also broke out at the warehouses of finished products on an area of 1,000 square meters, one person was injured.

In the Pecherskyi district, a fire broke out on the roof of a building.

In the Darnytskyi district, windows were broken and doors damaged in a store.

Information on casualties is being clarified.

"Relevant emergency services are working at all locations," Popko said.
