Ukraine ready for NATO membership - Zelensky
Ukraine is ready for NATO membership, and all that is needed is the consent of all allies.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told this to journalists before a summit of the European Political Community in Chisinau on Thursday, June 1, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
"Our future is in the European Union. Ukraine is also ready to be part of NATO. We are waiting for NATO to be ready to accept Ukraine," he said.
According to the Ukrainian leader, he feels support from NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, but "unity is needed from all allies."
At the same time, Zelensky emphasized the importance of "security guarantees" for Ukraine, as well as for Moldova, given Russia's aggressive behavior.
Zelensky earlier said Ukraine was waiting for a political invitation to the alliance at the NATO summit in Vilnius.
He also stressed that Ukraine should receive effective security guarantees even before it joins NATO.
Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that the decision on Ukraine's membership in NATO now depends on the four member states of the alliance.
The meeting of NATO heads of state and government will take place in Vilnius on July 11-12, 2023.
