Poland’s Sejm adopts resolution on supporting Ukraine's accession to NATO

The Sejm of the Republic of Poland has adopted a resolution on supporting Ukraine's accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

As many as 443 deputies voted for the document, while two voted against, and seven abstained, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Taking into account the loyalty of the Ukrainian people and their sovereign right to choose their own path of development, the Sejm of the Republic of Poland fully supports Ukraine’s European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations," the resolution reads.

As noted in the document, the Ukrainian army is becoming stronger and more compatible with NATO forces.

The document stresses that "from a military point of view, Ukraine's accession to NATO will also be useful for the Alliance."

"The upcoming summit in Vilnius is of crucial importance for the relations between NATO and Ukraine and should become a place for debates about the future of the country," the resolution says.

It is also stressed that the procedure of inviting Finland and Sweden to the Alliance can be applied to Ukraine as well.

"The Sejm of Poland supports efforts to strengthen political and practical cooperation between the Alliance and Ukraine and build a consensus on Ukraine's accession to NATO," the resolution reads.

As reported by Ukrinform, the first meeting of a new Ukraine-NATO Council may take place in Vilnius with the participation of President Volodymyr Zelensky.
