EU to speed up arms deliveries to Ukraine - EU Commissioner Brenton
European Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton has said that the European Union is speeding up arms deliveries to Ukraine in support of the country's counter offensive against Russian forces,
That’s according to Reuters, Ukrinform reports.
"We are going to step up our efforts to deliver arms and ammunition - this is a war of high intensity in which they play a crucial role," Breton said in an interview with the French daily Le Parisien.
During the mentioned statement, the European Commissioner referred to the pledge to deliver a million high-calibre weapons over the next 12 months. He also added that the EU is preparing for Russia's war against Ukraine to last “several more months, or even longer.”
As reported by Ukrinform, on May 9, at a joint briefing with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in Kyiv, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that the EU is ready to provide Ukraine with one million artillery rounds.
Earlier, on May 5, the EU Council finally approved an assistance measure worth EUR 1 billion under the European Peace Facility (EPF) to finance the procurement of artillery rounds and missiles for Ukraine.
