Enemy increases intensity of shelling on northern border – Defense Ministry

On the northern border, the enemy increases the intensity of shelling in order to keep Ukrainian forces there.

Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar said this on the air of the nationwide United News telethon, Ukrinform reports.

"We divide the northern border into the border with Belarus and the border with Russia. The situation is somewhat different there. The shelling is carried out and sometimes is increased from both sides, with the aim of concentrating our forces so that we cannot use these troops in other directions. There the Russians chose this tactic," said Maliar.

According to her, a certain number of troops are constantly stationed on the border with Russia. Military exercises are constantly ongoing in Belarus, and Russian troops are being restored there.

"The northern border is really fortified, and we have repeatedly reported on the exercises that the Armed Forces of Ukraine, border guards, and the National Guard jointly conduct there. The defense there is significantly strengthened. The way it happened in February is now impossible. It is important to get ready for everything - that's why we are preparing," she said.

As reported by Ukrinform, Commander of the Joint Forces, Lieutenant General Serhiy Nayev said that in connection with the events around the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, a decision was made to strengthen the northern border of Ukraine with both personnel and military equipment.
