Deputy Defense Minister talks about advantages of M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles on battlefield
Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar spoke about the advantages of M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles on the battlefield.
Hanna Maliar wrote about this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
"The US Department of Defense has announced an additional package of assistance to Ukraine in the field of security and defense. Among the 18 positions for which our state will receive weapons, military equipment and ammunition are American-made M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles," Maliar said.
According to her, the M2 Bradley is equipped with a 25-mm Bushmaster automatic cannon with 900 rounds of ammunition, a TOW launcher and a 7.62-mm machine gun. The gun's armor-piercing round can penetrate up to 66 mm of armor, which is enough to destroy a BMP-1/2 from a distance of up to 2 kilometers.
"Ukraine received the first batch of vehicles in the winter of 2023. The main task of an infantry fighting vehicle on the battlefield is to provide fire support and transport infantry, which the M2 Bradly does perfectly. Another important factor that makes this combat vehicle really valuable for our military is its protection," emphasized Maliar.
According to her, there was a case when Bradley's crew and troops remained unharmed after a direct hit by a Grad missile on the vehicle.
Another case was when the Bradley hit an anti-tank mine and received a direct hit from an anti-tank ammunition in the turret. The crew and troops were not injured.
"According to Ukrainian defenders, Soviet IFV's are not even close to their American counterparts in terms of protection," emphasized Maliar.
As Ukrinform reported, the United States announced on Friday that it would provide Ukraine with another military aid package. It includes artillery shells, including cluster munitions, missiles for Patriot and HIMARS systems, Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, Stryker armored personnel carriers, as well as other weapons and ammunition.
