Armed war veteran shot in posh Moscow suburb after breaking into mansion, taking hostages

A man sporting a military uniform, who recently returned from the Russian war in Ukraine, broke into a mansion in Sherwood, an elite cottage neighborhood just outside Moscow Saturday morning before being shot dead as the police stormed the site.

According to local media, the man, who allegedly has a mental disorder, was acting erratically, claiming “God” told him to seize the house, Ukrinform reports citing the Baza Telegram channel.

Interacting with security at the initial stage of the incident, the man, armed with a Kalashnikov assault rifle, said he had recently returned from the so-called “special military operation” in Ukraine. This is how the Russian government formally refers to the ongoing full-scale war Vladimir Putin unleashed on February 24, 2022.

During the joint operation by Russian Guard, police specops unit, and riot police, hostages made it out of the mansion alive, according to tentative reports.

Baza later reported that the police killed the attacker during the assault.

The purported culprit is Vyacheslav Chernenko, 35.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, law enforcers in the capital of Kazakhstan conducted a successful operation to detain a perpetrator who took hostages at the Kaspi Bank office.
