No movements of Russian troops, Wagner forces near border with Ukraine – SBGS spox
The situation on Ukraine's border with Belarus remains under control, with no movements of enemy hardware or personnel recorded.
Ukrainian State Border Guard Service (SBGS) spokesman Andrii Demchenko said this on national television, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
"Ukraine's intelligence units, including the SBGS, continue to monitor the situation with the transfer of Russian mercenaries from private military companies to Belarusian territory. If we talk about our border, the situation here remains under control. There is no movement of equipment or personnel of any units near our border, neither Russian mercenaries nor units of the army of Belarus or Russia," Demchenko said.
At the same time, according to him, Ukraine should be ready for any scenario. That is why, he added, the fortification of Ukraine's border with Belarus continues in order to be able to counter any threat in this direction.
Earlier reports said that several columns of Wagner Group fighters had arrived in Belarus. Earlier, it was reported that the Belarusian authorities had allowed them to set up camp in the village of Tsel in the Mogilev region, where tents for almost 9,000 mercenaries have been set up.
Ukrainian Joint Forces Commander, Lieutenant General Serhiy Nayev, said that mercenaries from the Wagner private military company had been moved to Belarus to put psychological pressure and intimidate the Ukrainian population.
According to the SBGS, the number of mercenaries of private military companies in Belarus can reach about 5,000.
