First photos of U.S. cluster munitions in Ukraine published on social media

The Ukrainian military is already using U.S.-supplied cluster munitions against the Russian army on the frontline, and the first images of the shells have already been posted on social media.

That's according to the Twitter account of the Ukraine Weapons Tracker community, Ukrinform reports.

"The first photo of 155mm cluster projectiles which were recently transferred by the US in Ukrainian service," the tweet reads.

According to the tweet, these are American M864 extended range (29km) base-bleed projectiles, each carrying 72 dual-purpose submunitions. Normally these rounds are treated as war reserve.

Earlier, the Ukrainian side stated in the OSCE that the Ukrainian Armed Forces would use cluster munitions exclusively in areas where Russian troops are concentrated in temporarily occupied territories, carefully recording all cases.

This week, Ukraine will share with the United States a report on the use of U.S.-supplied cluster munitions in Ukraine, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said.
