Norway to contribute EUR 22M to European Peace Facility to help Ukrainian military

The EU and Norway signed today a transfer agreement for a voluntary financial contribution of Norway to the assistance measure under the European Peace Facility (EPF) for supplying military equipment to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said this in a press release posted on the website of the European Council, Ukrinform reports.

"The EU and Norway's combined efforts in providing military assistance to Ukraine is a model example of how synergies can have a multiplying effect on our support to Ukraine as they are fighting against the Russian aggression," Borrell said, commenting on the signing of the agreement.

On February 14, the Norwegian government announced its decision to support the assistance measure for Ukraine through the European Peace Facility with a voluntary financial contribution of NOK 250 million (approximately EUR 22 million).

The July 25 signature formalizes this decision and ensures that the agreement can enter into force and Norway can effectively contribute to the supply of military equipment for Ukraine.

The press release notes that this is the second time that Norway makes a financial contribution to the European Peace Facility, thereby effectively increasing its total contribution to NOK 400 million (approximately EUR 36.5 million).

Earlier reports said that Norway would provide about EUR 7 billion in assistance to Ukraine over the next five years.
