First 37 apartments for temporary residence of IDPs put into operation in Kyiv
The first 37 apartments for temporary residence of internally displaced people have been put into operation in Kyiv.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.
"The first 37 apartments for internally displaced people have already been put into operation and are ready to accept people for temporary residence. The apartments are owned by the territorial community of Kyiv, and the capital provides them for free to internally displaced persons," Klitschko said in a statement.
According to him, the city has purchased 113 such apartments. Their total area is about 6 thousand square meters, and the total cost is almost UAH 230 million.
"Today we handed over the keys of the new apartments to two families. This is the family of Ms. Oksana from Sloviansk, in the Donetsk region. The family consists of six people: three young children and Oksana's parents, both of whom are disabled," the mayor said.
According to him, the family of Oleksandr and Olga from Mariupol also received housing. The couple is raising a son who has been disabled since childhood. The boy's father, Oleksandr, is a member of a volunteer group of the Kyiv territorial community. His parents also live with them.
According to Klitschko, 810 families of internally displaced persons are currently in need of temporary housing.
According to him, almost 400,000 IDPs have registered in the capital since 2014. About 15,000 of them are people with disabilities, and more than 65,000 are pensioners.
As reported, the capital is increasing the fund of protective structures - underground space is considered as a possible shelter.
