Mriya destruction: ex-Antonov executive to be tried for negligence
The former director general of the state enterprise Antonov, whose negligence caused the destruction of the Antonov AN-225 Mriya aircraft, will be tried.
That's according to the Prosecutor General's Office on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
Prosecutors of the Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Prosecutor General's Office have sent an indictment to the court against the former CEO of Antonov on the fact of official negligence (Part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The investigation established that the former CEO of the state-owned enterprise improperly performed his official duties to ensure the safety of a property.
As a result, the AN-225 Mriya transport aircraft was not transported from the danger zone - the Antonov airfield in Hostomel, Kyiv region - promptly, before the start of Russia's full-scale military invasion of Ukraine.
As a result of shelling by the military of the aggressor state, the aircraft was destroyed. The state suffered almost UAH 8.5 billion in losses.
The accused is in custody.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, in March, law enforcement officers served notices of suspicion to the former CEO of Antonov, the acting deputy CEO, and the deputy director of aviation security of the state enterprise, whose actions led to the destruction of the An-225 Mriya aircraft.
