Ukrainian forces repel attempt by Russian subversive group to cross border in Sumy region - Nayev
Today, August 12, Ukrainian defense forces thwarted an attempt by a Russian subversive and reconnaissance group to cross the border in Sumy region.
Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Serhiy Nayev, said this in a post on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
The enemy subversive and reconnaissance group was discovered by soldiers of the separate mechanized brigade in the area of responsibility of the Northern Strategic Grouping of Troops near one of the villages in Znob-Novhorodske territorial community.
Ten armed persons were observed visually and acoustically. Ukrainian soldiers engaged in a shooting battle.
To help the defenders, counter-sabotage reserves from the National Guard and the border guard with drones went to the scene.
The heavy fire of the defenders forced Russians to take the wounded and retreat beyond the state border of Ukraine.
The Russians covered the withdrawal of the subversive and reconnaissance group with 120mm mortars.
"Thanks to skillful and timely actions, Ukrainian defenders stopped another enemy attempt to invade the territory of our country," the commander concluded.
As reported by Ukrinform, border guards reveal most Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups in Sumy and Chernihiv regions.
