Ukraine downs 16 Russian cruise missiles overnight Tue

In the early hours of Tuesday, August 15, Ukraine’s Defense Forces intercepted 16 incooming Russian cruise missiles.

That’s according to the Air Force Command press service, Ukrinform reports.

At around 4:00 a.m., the Russian invaders struck Ukraine with air- and sea-based missiles, the press service wrote on Telegram.

In total, launches of at least 28 cruise missiles of various types were recorded, including four Kh-22 cruise missiles (fired off by six Tu-22M3 long-range bombers that took off from the airfields based in Soltsy and Shaykovka); 20 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles (launched by 11 strategic bombers that took off from Engels and Olenegorsk airfields); four Kalibr cruise missiles (launched by a frigate deployed in the Black Sea off the coast of Yalta, Crimea).

An air raid alert went off throughout the territory of Ukraine. Air defense was active in multiple regions regions where anti-aircraft missile units, mobile fire groups, fighter aircraft, and direct cover units operated.

As a result of the effort, the Air Force, in cooperation with other elements of Ukraine’s defense forces, destroyed 16 Kh-101/Kh-555 and Kalibr missiles.

In addition, eight launches of S-300/S-400 anti-aircraft guided missiles were recorded in the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.

Local military administrations will report on the consequences of the missile strikes, the Air Force emphasized.
