Rheinmetall to start repairing tanks in Ukraine this month
Germany's armaments group Rheinmetall intends to start servicing tanks in Ukraine in the coming days.
Armin Papperger, head of the Dusseldorf-based company, said this in an interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
According to him, the first 12 Ukrainian employees have completed their training in Germany, and now a further 12 are coming.
Papperger also confirmed the intention to start tank production in Ukraine as soon as possible.
"That can happen quickly. There are enough well-equipped Soviet-era tank factories there," he said.
According to Papperger, the company wants to rent them and then manufacture armored vehicles in line with NATO standards on one or two production lines.
Earlier reports said that Rheinmetall plans to open tank repair centers in Ukraine this autumn.
Additionally, in the long term, it is planned to build a factory for the production of Panther tanks in Ukraine.
