War update: Ukrainian forces continue to hold back Russian offensive in Marinka sector

Some 22 combat engagements took place between Ukraine's defense forces and Russian troops on Sunday, August 20.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said this in an evening update posted to Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

The General Staff said that in the last 24 hours, the enemy carried out 22 airstrikes and launched 30 MLRS  attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas. As a result of Russian terrorist attacks, civilian casualties were recorded. Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were damaged.

Ukraine's defense forces continue to conduct an offensive operation in the Melitopol and Berdiansk directions, consolidating their positions and carry out counter-battery measures.

"Throughout the day, the aircraft of the defense forces carried out nine strikes on areas where enemy personnel were concentrated. Throughout the day, units of rocket forces and artillery hit a command post and three artillery pieces at the enemy's firing positions," the General Staff said.
