Russian forces intensifying airstrikes in Lyman-Kupiansk direction
In the Lyman-Kupiansk direction, Ukraine’s defense forces repelled 20 Russian assaults, destroyed 23 units of enemy equipment, and eliminated 263 invaders.
That’s according to Army spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Volodymyr Fitio, who spoke on the air of the national telethon, Ukrinform reports.
“In the Lyman-Kupiansk direction, our military repelled 20 attacks in the Synkivka, Ivanivka, Serebrianske Forestry, and Spirne. The enemy has launched 13 airstrikes, which is 10 more than the previous day. They deployed attack fighter jets and Ka-52 fire support helicopters,” Fitio said, adding that the enemy shelled Ukrainian positions 690 times.
The enemy lost 23 units of equipment in the Lyman-Kupiansk direction, including seven tanks, three infantry fighting vehicles, as well as a Strizh e-warfare system. An estimated 263 Russian servicemen were killed in action.
Fitio noted that the regular visits of Ground Forces Commander Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrskyi to the said area of the front allowed for a proper control of the battlefield developments and effective operational decision-making.
“We know that in this direction (Lyman-Kupiansk - ed.), the enemy has switched to an offensive, trying to storm our positions. They are seeing no success but the commander of our Eastern group of troops discussed the current situation directly with brigade and unit commanders in this area and issued the relevant orders. Decisions were made in order to strengthen our maneuver defense. Because we not only defend, but at any right occasion, take action to improve our positions, so that the enemy is pushed back from the line of contact,” Fitio explained.
The spokesman noted that at the moment, enemy forces storming the Ukrainian positions, the so-called "Storm Z" and "Storm V" units, have not gained any strategic success.
As reported by Ukrinform, Russia has already lost about 294,799 soldiers and officers in Ukraine (+870 in the past day).
