Russia runs drill to test massive nuclear strike

Under the leadership of President Vladimir Putin, Russia’s strategic nuclear forces ran an exercise to train a massive strike involving land, sea, and air carriers.

This was reported in the Kremlin’s Telegram channel, Ukrinform saw.

According to the report, the Yars intercontinental ballistic missile was launched from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in the Arkhangelsk region targeting the Kura test site in Kamchatka. At the same time, a Sineva ballistic missile was launched from the Barents Sea by the Tula nuclear submarine cruiser, and Tu-95MS long-range bombers launched air-based cruise missiles.

The Russian Ministry of Defense published a video of the launches.

As reported, the State Duma and the Federation Council approved the draft law on the withdrawal of ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty. Vladimir Putin had put forward the initiative early October.

Earlier, Russia suspended participation in the Strategic Offensive Arms Reduction Treaty, signed with the United States in 2010.

Since the outset of Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine, a number of pro-Kremlin politicians and public figures, and sometimes state officials, have suggested the possibility of Russia employing nuclear weapons in the ongoing war.
