Russian troops have struck private houses in the town of Hirnyk, Donetsk region, killing two civilians and wounding eight others.

Ukraine's State Emergency Service announced this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

According to the post, rescue workers found a wounded child at the site of the impact. The child was given first aid and hospitalized.

Rescuers also recovered the body of a dead woman from under the rubble of a house destroyed by an enemy strike.

"The work has been completed. In total, according to preliminary information, the shelling injured eight people and killed two," the service said.

Vadym Filashkin, head of the region's military administration, reported on Telegram that a 16-year-old boy was among those wounded.

"At least two people were killed and eight injured due to a missile attack on Hirnyk. Among the wounded is a 16-year-old boy. He is in critical condition," he wrote.

He added that the Russians attacked the town at around 16:00 and hit a residential building. Two apartment blocks and 43 private houses on five streets were damaged.

"Another targeted and deliberate attack on civilians, another war crime by the Russians. The enemy wants to kill as many Ukrainians as possible. Under such circumstances, the right choice is to evacuate from the Donetsk region to safer regions in Ukraine. Do not put yourself in mortal danger. Evacuate," Filashkin said.
