Explaining complex things in simple words: Elections in United States
The Center for Strategic Communication and Information Security pursues efforts to provide a brief explanation to foreign audiences on the current topics of particular interest as regards Ukraine.
ELECTIONS IN THE UNITED STATES
On November 5, 2024, the 60th presidential election will take place in the United States. In January, the newly elected head of state will take the oath. In addition, this autumn, elections to both houses of the U.S. Congress will take place. The candidates, traditionally, will be announced at party congresses on July 15-18 (for Republicans) and August 19-22 (for Democrats).
· Ukraine is deeply grateful to the United States for the uninterrupted and powerful support of our state in countering the armed aggression of Russia.
· The United States has provided comprehensive support to the Ukrainian people and contributed to the strengthening of international sanctions against the aggressor country from the very beginning of the armed aggression of Russia, since 2014.
· The choice of the President of the United States is the decision of the American people. Ukraine will cooperate with any President, regardless of their party affiliation.
· Regardless of the election results, U.S. support will not weaken and will only increase. Since Ukraine's victory over Russian aggression is a national, not a party, interest.
· Ukraine has always valued strong bipartisan support in the United States. We hope that it will continue because the topic of support for Ukraine has always been a topic that unites (rather than divides) Democrats and Republicans.
· Ukraine has never called on the United States to deploy its military and fight for our country. Ukrainians rely on military, political, economic, and humanitarian assistance to deter Russia, a key U.S. adversary in Europe, the aggressor state.
· By providing military and humanitarian support, the United States contributes to global stability for many decades. This is not a charity, but the best security investment.
· The goal of Ukraine is to restore peace, peaceful coexistence, and territorial integrity of its state. We are grateful to the American and other partners for their active support in the restoration of Ukraine.
· Putin openly declares that he is fighting not so much with Ukraine as with the West. Therefore, if Ukraine stands, so will the West.
· Russian aggression against the civilized West must suffer a crushing defeat in Ukraine. Otherwise, all potential aggressors around the world will get a signal that it is possible to use force with impunity, change borders, and not suffer the consequences. For the United States and every American family, this will be a catastrophic development that will lead to much greater problems and expenses to ensure the security of the United States than it is now.
