Explaining complex things in simple words: Iran's massive attack on Israel, consideration of assistance to Ukraine in US Congress, energy savings

The Center for Strategic Communication and Information Security pursues efforts to provide a brief explanation to foreign audiences on the current topics of particular interest as regards Ukraine.

IRAN'S MASSIVE ATTACK ON ISRAEL

On the night of April 14, Iran attacked Israel with about 170 UAVs, more than 30 cruise missiles, and 120 ballistic missiles. Israel and its allies destroyed almost all 300 air targets and repelled the attack.

  • Ukraine strongly condemns Iran's massive attacks against Israel. Such actions are completely unacceptable, irresponsible and carry the risk of an unprecedented escalation of the situation in the Middle East.
  • Ukrainians very well know the horror of similar attacks by
  • Russia, which have been going on for more than two years. In 4 months alone of 2024, the enemy fired almost 1,000 missiles, about 2,800 UAVs, and almost 7,000 guided bombs at Ukraine.
  • During the Russian attacks against Ukraine, the Iranians are training how to attack Israel. Russia and Iran cooperate closely, in particular, they use similar samples of Shahed/Geran drones.
  • The successful repelling of the Iranian attack showed the importance of effective allied assistance: Israel was helped to shoot down air targets by the United States, Great Britain, France, Jordan. We expect that Ukraine's neighbours will take an example. Moreover, Russian missiles and drones regularly violate their airspace.
  • Israel's experience shows that due to a sufficient number of modern weapons, in particular fighter aircraft, it is possible to effectively repel massive attacks. This is an additional argument why it is necessary to provide Ukraine with additional air defence systems and F-16 aircraft.

CONSIDERATION OF ASSISTANCE TO UKRAINE IN THE U.S. CONGRESS

In the course of the week, the House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress might bring up the issue of military assistance.

  • Iran's massive attack on Israel demonstrates the importance of mobilizing all the forces of the free world to defend the global borders of democracy.
  • It is time to put an end to several months of delaying the consideration of the vital issue of military assistance in the U.S. Congress. While democracies are in doubt, the self-confidence of dictatorships and terrorists is growing.
  • Israel needs support. But no less support needs Ukraine, which is constantly suffering from Russian missile terror and is struggling to contain the enemy's onslaught at the front. It is necessary to preserve the package of joint assistance to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, which has already been voted in the Senate.
  • Russia causes significant damage to Ukraine every day. The price of delaying assistance is constantly increasing.
  • We expect that a crucial aid package will be voted by Congress this week.

ENERGY SAVINGS

  • Massive Russian attacks this spring caused serious damage to the Ukrainian energy sector. Power generating objects have been destroyed or damaged.
  • Ukraine's energy system needs to be stabilized. To achieve this, it is necessary to reduce the power shortage during peak consumption hours.
  • Long daylight hours and mostly sunny weather contribute to energy savings, but the load on the energy sector increases in the evening.
  • The Ministry of Energy is looking for a solution to stabilize this situation, but now we need help from Ukrainians: to transfer the use of the most energy-intensive devices to the daytime and try to save energy in the evening.
  • We should all save electricity every day from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. This will help partially neutralize the consequences of the Russian attempts to destroy the Ukrainian energy sector.
