Ukraine’s air defenses shot down 22 of 27 Shahed UAVs overnight

On the night of June 5, 2024, the Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 27 Shahed-131/136 strike UAVs from the areas of Russia’s Kursk and Crimea’s Cape Chauda.

Ukraine’s Air Force Commander, Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk said this in a post on Telegram.

As a result of the air defense battle, 22 Shahed UAVs were shot down in the Mykolaiv, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, and Poltava regions.

Anti-aircraft missile units and EW units of the Air Force and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces were involved in repelling the enemy air attack.

As reported, air alerts went off across Ukraine in the morning due to the takeoff of a MiG-31 in Russia.
