Canada declares new CAD 500M defense package for Ukraine

At a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a new military aid package for Ukraine worth 500 million Canadian dollars.

That’s according to the President’s Office, Ukrinform reports.

"During the meeting on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in Washington, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau condemned the recent Russian missile attack on Ukraine," the report reads.

The head of the Canadian government emphasized that his country is ready to provide the necessary medical support to victims of the Russian attack on the Okhmatdyt children's hospital in Kyiv.

It is noted that Trudeau also announced a new, additional package of military support for Ukraine in the amount of CAD 500 million.

"It is very important for our people to hear this. Thank you for your help, for the additional defense package. This will further empower our heroes on the battlefield," Zelensky said.

The leaders of the two countries discussed Ukraine's defense needs and coordinated cooperation within the fighter coalition.

According to President’s Office, the President talked about the need to expand the training missions for Ukrainian pilots. The parties exchanged views on the possibility of additional training for Ukrainian pilots on Canadian flight simulators and holding in Canada of one of the thematic meetings based on the outcome of the inaugural Peace Summit.

As reported, Volodymyr Zelensky and the new head of the British government, Keir Starmer, discussed the practical implementation of the permission to use Storm Shadow missiles against military targets inside Russia.
