Explaining complex things in simple words: Enemy aviation losses, deterrence of Russian offensive, danger of Russian expansion on Europe

The Center for Strategic Communication and Information Security pursues efforts to provide a brief explanation to foreign audiences on the current topics of particular interest as regards Ukraine.

ENEMY AVIATION LOSSES

The Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence clarifies that two Tu-22M3 strategic bombers were damaged in the explosion at the Russian Olenya military airbase on July 25.

  • Olenya airbase is one of the most remote bases of the Russian strategic aviation involved in the war with Ukraine (about 1,800 km from the Ukrainian border).
  • Russian strategic aviation regularly attacks Ukrainian cities, launching missiles from the Olenya airbase.
  • Main Directorate of Intelligence does not confirm or deny Ukraine's involvement in this operation.
  • This is not the first case of damage and destruction of Russian strategic bombers involved in Russian aggression. It is possible that such incidents at enemy airfields will continue in the future.
  • Finnish President Alexander Stubb admitted that the Olenya airbase is a legitimate military target for Ukraine, and there is no direct threat to Finland from attacks on the airfield.

DETERRENCE OF THE RUSSIAN OFFENSIVE

  • Russian generals do not consider on human losses and traditionally litter the battlefield with corpses.
  • The enemy command is deliberately exchanging the lives of soldiers for meters of advancing through the fields and destroyed villages in Ukraine. Russian commanders follow the instructions of their leadership to advance at any cost.
  • The enemy soldiers are doomed to death either in the offensive or by retreating from their positions, for which severe punishment is provided. Out of desperation, the wounded occupiers commit suicide en masse.
  • To stop this, it is necessary to destroy the rear logistics of the enemy so that the masses of Russian slave-soldiers have nothing to eat, nothing to shoot, and no way to get to the battle line.
  • This requires more artillery ammunition, long-range missiles, and the lifting of restrictions on striking Western weapons deep into enemy territory.

DANGER OF RUSSIAN EXPANSION ON EUROPE

Hungary has decided to simplify the entry procedure for citizens of the Russian Federation and Belarus.

  • Budapest's imprudent decision puts the whole of Europe at risk. Russia's goal is to destabilize the EU by hybrid means, and there are enough examples of such attempts.
  • Restrictions on entering Europe from the Russian Federation and Belarus are justified. Putin and Lukashenko regularly resort to provocations at the border; in particular, they try to direct the flow of illegal migrants to the EU.
  • The Kremlin will definitely use the Hungarian loophole to send spies, killers, saboteurs, and propagandists to the EU. An additional threat will hang over Ukrainian families who were forced to seek refuge in the EU due to the war.
  • Russian agents may resort to new assassination attempts (as against the Rheinmetall director Armin Papperger), attempted coups (as in the Balkans and Moldova), and attempts to disrupt the Olympics in Paris.
  • The EU leadership should influence Hungary to prevent the negative consequences of such decisions.
