Russians amass troops near Kinburn Spit to prevent Ukrainian forces from crossing Dnipro – military spox
Russian troops are building up forces near the Kinburn Spit to strengthen their defense and prevent Ukrainian forces from crossing the Dnipro River.
This was stated by Vladyslav Voloshyn, Spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces, during a television broadcast, as reported by Ukrinform.
"According to our intelligence data, they are likely amassing forces there [in the Kinburn Spit area] to maintain a stronger defense. They are fortifying their positions, transferring defensive weapons to prevent the Ukrainian Defense Forces from crossing the Dnipro, landing troops on the Tendrivska and Kinburn Spits, especially the Kinburn Spit, and to keep control of the Dnipro estuary and the Dnipro islands, where intense fighting is currently taking place," Voloshyn stated.
The Kinburn sand spit is located in Mykolaiv region near the town of Ochakiv. It is an extension of the Kinburn Peninsula, partially separating the Black Sea from the Dnipro-Buzka Estuary.
As reported earlier, Serhii Bratchuk, spokesperson for the Southern Unit of the Ukrainian Volunteer Army, mentioned that the decision to liberate the Kinburn Spit in Mykolaiv region depends on the capabilities and operational tasks of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
