SBGS spox: Russians trying to shift combat operations from Kursk region to Sumy region
Enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups are trying to expand the area of penetration in Sumy region and move the fighting from Kursk region to the territory of Ukraine.
According to Ukrinform, this was stated on television by the State Border Guard Service (SBGS) spokesman Andriy Demchenko.
“Previously, most of the enemy subversive reconnaissance groups were detected in the north of Sumy region, but now in some cases we record their attempts to move closer to the southern and southeastern parts of Sumy region,” Demchenko said.
According to him, in this way the enemy is trying to transfer combat operations from the Kursk region to the territory of Ukraine.
“The enemy has amassed enough troops to drive the Ukrainian Defense Forces out of the Kursk region where our units were conducting their operation. Our task is first of all to keep our defense in order to prevent the enemy from advancing, as we are currently seeing in the direction of Novenke and Zhuravka,” emphasized Demchenko.
He said that the enemy is using the tactics of small assault groups trying to cross the border as quickly as possible and accumulate.
“The enemy is trying to expand the combat zone on the territory of Ukraine, using the tactics of small assault groups of up to 5 people. Sometimes such assault actions are carried out on ATVs in order to cross the border as quickly as possible and go deeper into the territory of Ukraine, expecting further accumulation, and to keep the combat zone on the territory of Ukraine,” said Demchenko.
At the same time, he assured that all enemy subversive reconnaissance groups are effectively destroyed by the Defense Forces.
“They are destroyed immediately after crossing the border or on the outskirts. For this purpose, the units of the Border Guard Service and the Armed Forces of Ukraine that are in this area, using artillery and drones, destroy these groups to prevent the enemy from accumulating and expanding the area of active combat on the territory of Ukraine,” said the SBGS spokesman.
He noted that since the beginning of this year, the enemy has been most actively using its subversive reconnaissance groups in Sumy region, where the border is more than 530 km long.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, the enemy is trying to enter the territory of Sumy region in order to surround the Defense Forces located in Kursk region.
