SBU presses charges against Russian Railways chief
The Security Service of Ukraine has pressed criminal charges against the head of Russian Railways as an accomplice in Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The SBU reported the news on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
"Evidence base has been gathered as regards the head of OJSC Russian Railways, who facilitated and continues to facilitate Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine," the statement reads.
According to the inquiry, he organized the delivery by rail of Russian armored vehicles and personnel toward the state border of Ukraine and to the temporarily occupied areas.
To this end, he involved 185 Russian companies that provided their own rail passenger cars, tanks and platforms to cover the logistical needs of the invading force.
The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine has imposed sanctions on the said entities.
According to the SBU, the official was charged under Art. 27 Part 5 and Art. 437 Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (planning, preparation, initiation and waging of a war of aggression).
The suspect is facing up to 15 years in prison if found guilty.
As Ukrinform reported, in January, the SBU pressed charges against Russia’s central bank governor Elvira Nabiullina over introducing a "ruble zone" in the temporarily occupied areas of Ukraine.
