Two customs officers detained in Cherkasy with bribe
Two Cherkasy customs officers were detained while taking a bribe and notified of being suspected.
This was reported by the Cherkasy Regional Prosecutor's Office on Facebook, according to Ukrinform.
"The investigation has established that Cherkasy customs officers demanded an undue benefit from an entrepreneur for not drawing up administrative materials on his violation of customs rules when importing 25 cars from abroad and for unimpeded customs clearance. The customs officers were detained red-handed, directly during the receipt of the illegal benefit in the amount of USD 1250, i.e. USD 50 for each imported car," the statement said.
It is noted that both suspects were chosen preventive measures in the form of detention.
The sanction of the article of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which the detainees are charged with, provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years with confiscation of property.
As reported, between January and May, inspectors of the State Customs Service of Ukraine detected nearly 5,000 violations of customs rules worth more than UAH 4.3 billion.
