Massive batch of smuggled Ukrainian amber seized at Polish border checkpoint

Polish customs officers discovered a 67.4 kg batch of amber, this year’s record, that was being smuggled from Ukraine in a vehicle.

That’s according to the Lublin Customs Administration, Ukrinform reports.

The batch, whose market value is estimated at over $200,000, was found at the Grebenne - Rava-Ruska checkpoint.

As it is noted, amber was illegally transported by a Ukrainian national, who crossed out of Ukraine and was entering Poland as a passenger of a private vehicle. The stones were concealed in several caches across the vehicle.

"The citizen of Ukraine will be held accountable for the tax crime," the customs agency said.

As noted, since year-start, the customs officers from the Lublin Voivodeship found nearly 160 kg of amber being smuggled into the country.
