Ukrainian MP charged over assault on war veteran

Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin has pressed charges against Ukraine’s lawmaker Mykola Tyshchenko following an incident in Dnipro where the legislator and a group of his associates assaulted a former military serviceman following an altercation.

This was reported by the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation, Ukrinform saw.

"In the SBI case, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine pressed charges against People's Deputy Mykola Tyshchenko for the illegal deprivation of liberty of a former serviceman in the city of Dnipro," the report says.

According to the SBI, on June 20, 2024, the incident involved a group of persons acting upon the lawmaker’s instructions.

The ex-serviceman was held for some time and also physically abused.

Prosecutors will ask the court to impose on the suspect a 24-hour house arrest.

At least one more person from the group was also charged.

The special operations unit KRAKEN earlier confirmed that the victim of the assault in Dnipro is their former serviceman.
