Ex-deputy mayor’s murder: prosecutors reveal case details
The suspect in the murder of the former deputy mayor of Kamianske, Oleksandr Plakhotnik, committed the crime over debt. He had long been tracking down the victim and fired at least 10 shots to kill him.
The Prosecutor General's Office reported this on Telegram, Ukrinform saw.
"Under the procedural guidance of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, charges of intentional murder, committed for mercenary motives, and illegal arms handling were pressed against a resident of the region. According to the investigation, the suspect, motivated by non-repayment of a debt, committed the murder of the former deputy mayor of Kamianske," the report says.
The prosecutor's office noted that in order to commit the crime, the suspect had been preparing for several months, collecting detailed information on the victim’s everyday routine. To this end, the suspect installed surveillance cameras outside the the victim’s house.
On the morning of March 28, 2025, the suspect arrived at the victim's place of residence. He then fired at least 10 shots at the man. The former mayor died at the scene. After committing the crime, the suspect fled the scene.
During the investigation, law enforcers seized weapons and ammunition used by the perpetrator.
The Dnipropetrovsk region police added that as a result of the search efforts, the suspect, a 54-year-old resident of Kamianske, who was familiar with the victim, was located in Lviv region.
To hide the traces of his crime, the suspect burned down car he was using before fleeing to another region. He was detained on March 29.
As Ukrinform reported, on March 28, in the Kamianske district of Dnipropetrovsk region, the body of a man with a gunshot wound to the head was found on the side of the road. Later, law enforcement confirmed the reports that the victim had been identified as former vice-mayor of Kamianske, member of the Batkivshchyna Party, Oleksandr Plakhotnik.
