United States to provide weapons to Ukraine - State Department spokesperson

The U.S. Department of State has confirmed that the United States will provide Ukraine with “enhanced defensive capabilities” to defend its territorial integrity from Russian-backed separatists in Donbas. 

U.S. State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert stated this on Friday evening, Reuters reports.

“U.S. assistance is entirely defensive in nature, and as we have always said, Ukraine is a sovereign country and has a right to defend itself,” reads the statement.

Earlier, the U.S. media reported that the US Department of State decided to approve the delivery of small arms to Ukraine.
