Militants fired 120mm mortars on Ukrainian troops in Donbas in last day

Russian-backed militants launched two attacks on positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Donbas in last day despite the agreements of the Trilateral Contact Group on ceasefire during the New Year and Christmas holidays. One Ukrainian serviceman was wounded.

This is reported by the ATO Headquarters press center.

“Two attacks on positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were recorded over the past day. As a result of the enemy shelling, one Ukrainian serviceman was wounded. He was immediately taken to a hospital and provided with the necessary medical care,” the report reads.

As noted, the ceasefire in Luhansk direction was violated for the first time over the past three days as militants fired 120mm mortars on Ukrainian strongholds near Luhanske (59km north-east of Donetsk).

In Donetsk direction, ATO troops came under grenade launcher, small arms and 120mm mortar fire outside Verkhniotoretske (22km north-east of Donetsk).

Ukrainian troops did not return fire.
