Avdiivka marks sixth anniversary of liberation from Russian occupiers
The town of Avdiivka in the Donetsk region marks the sixth anniversary of its liberation from Russian occupiers with a solemn ceremony of raising of Ukrainian military units’ flags.
"Avdiivka has solemnly marked the sixth anniversary of liberation from the Russian occupiers," the press service of the Donetsk Regional Military Civil Administration informs.
Major General Andriy Sokolov, commander of the East operational and tactical group, held a solemn ceremony of raising the flags of Ukrainian military units near the monument to the soldiers who died during the defense of Avdiivka. The monument was erected and unveiled near Avdiivka 19 on September 2017 at the initiative of Major General Sokolov.
The local residents and officials laid flowers to the monument.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Commander of the Joint Forces Colonel Yevhen Kovalenko, Deputy Head of the Donetsk Regional State Administration Vadym Filashkin, Head of Avdiivka Military Civil Administration Vitaliy Barabash, servicepersons, government organizations, representatives of NGOs.
Six years ago, servicepersons of the 2nd battalion tactical group of the 93rd separate mechanized brigade and members of the Right Sector Ukrainian Volunteer Corps liberated the town of Avdiivka, which had been occupied by pro-Russian militants since April 2014.
