Ukrainian serviceman dies in Luhansk region

A Ukrainian serviceman has died as a result of the careless handling of a grenade near Novotoshkivske (53km west of Luhansk). The circumstances are being clarified. The senior staff of the brigade and the working group of the military law enforcement service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine work at the scene.

“Today, September 16, one ceasefire violation has been recorded in the areas of responsibility of Ukrainian brigades. The armed units of the Russian Federation fired an unaimed shot from an under-barrel grenade launcher in the area of Katerynivka (64km west of Luhansk),” the press center of the JFO Headquarters reports.

No casualties among the Joint Forces personnel have been reported.

On September 15, the armed formations of the Russian Federation committed three violations of the agreements reached within the framework of the Trilateral Contact Group on July 22, 2020.

The occupiers opened fire near the village of Prychepylivka (50km north-west of Luhansk) from an under-barrel grenade launcher.

At the same time, the enemy carried out engineering works to equip its positions towards Ukrainian units near Popasna (69km west of Luhansk). In addition, Ukrainian troops spotted an enemy UAV which had crossed the demarcation line near Vodiane (94km south of Donetsk). The drone was suppressed by Ukrainian electronic warfare equipment. This made its further use impossible.

On September 15, a Ukrainian defender was injured by an unknown explosive device when performing engineering works near Vodiane. Two more servicemen were injured as a result of the explosion of RGD-5 grenade outside Shumy (41km north of Donetsk).

The injured soldiers were taken to medical facilities, their condition is stable.
