Number of servicewomen in Ukraine almost doubles over seven years
The number of servicewomen in the Armed Forces of Ukraine has almost doubled over the past seven years.
As Ukrinform learnt from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 16,557 women did military service in 2013, while the number of Ukrainian servicewomen in 2020 was 31,757. Of them, the Ukrainian army had 1,633 women officers in 2013 and already 4,810 women officers in 2020.
Over the past seven years, Ukrainian servicewomen have taken part in international peacekeeping and security operations: two women officers in 2013 and already six servicewomen (five officers) in 2020.
In 2014-2020, more than 13.5 thousand women were granted a combat veteran status for participation in the Anti-Terrorist Operation / Joint Forces Operation in eastern Ukraine. In particular, in 2014, the status was granted to 101 ATO participants, in 2020 – to 19 ATO participants and 1,643 JFO participants.
Currently, 925 women officers occupy command positions and the total number of servicewomen in the Armed Forces of Ukraine is 56,726 people.
